President's Corner

I was raised by a father who instilled in me the spirit of confidence, boldness, and imagination. He inspired me not just to dream, but to surpass my dreams and defy all expectations. His legacy fuels my audacity to reach beyond the stars, pushing me to explore new horizons with unwavering determination.

He also taught me the profound values of gratitude, humility, and compassion. Through his countless acts of kindness and generosity, I learned the true meaning of caring for others. As I journey forward, I find it essential to look back and acknowledge those who have supported me. This spirit of gratitude compels me to reach out to the less fortunate while recognizing their resilience, brilliance, and ingenuity.

My late father embodied the essence of patriotism, love of country more than oneself. He believed passionately that our beloved Haiti could reclaim its pride, regain its beauty, and secure its rightful place in history. He envisioned a future where the descendants of our heroic ancestors—Henri Christophe, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Alexandre Pétion—unite in love and dedication to our homeland. This dream is within our grasp when we defend the inalienable rights and shared humanity of each individual.

Our ancestors set ablaze the chains and systems designed to enslave their minds and bodies. They forged a trail for us to achieve and preserve our inherent freedom, self-determination, and self-governance. They sacrificed everything to capture and defend their liberty, having once been taken from Africa.

As Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley so eloquently stated, “we must emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.” It is our duty to honor their legacy by striving for a future where freedom and justice prevail, where every Haitian can stand tall and proud, knowing that we are the heirs to a legacy of courage, strength, and unwavering hope.

Fine Artist/Claudia Apaid

Claudia Apaid Fine Artist_edited.png

Claudia Apaid, a Haitian American artist whose designs are inspired by energy, spirituality and nature, interweaves a variety of mixed media creations in handmade embroideries and metal works, often alongside artisans from around the globe.

Apaid uses hand-stitched embroidery and techniques with sequins, crystals, glass beads, precious stones and metal to create her unique pieces.

Described as vibrational pieces, her works of art are charged with Reiki healing energy while handcrafted with precise attention to detail. Complex patterns and cellular structures, both of which represent the universe, are weaved in a way creating a personal connection to all matter. With a focus of the repetitions and patterns found in nature and the spiritual worlds, Apaid explores and documents the very nature of life itself and our relationship with it. Apaid is a graduate from Miami International’s University of Art & Design with a degree in Design. She has displayed her work in exhibits throughout the US and internationally. She recently created Haiti’s national costume for the Miss Universe 2022 pageant and unveiled a new collection of wearable art clutch bags. She has been featured in various publications and was recently awarded by the city of Miami for her artistic contributions to the city.

Embroidery Close Up.jpg

There is an unseen force that fuels all creation and its process. It connects us to the universe in all of its immensity. Its vibration incites and fuels our being. This activated life force energy creates a complex design that serves both, as a harness to the dwelling place of the self and as a doorway to the hidden fields that connect us to the all. My creations explore this space, a metaphor of how the macro and the micro come together so preciously and cohesively into a tapestry of wholeness. When consciously used, the subjects serve as a transcendental tool to interconnect, transmute, and help us attain optimal physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
